Which side should a Smith kid take?
Luckily, at least for this year, I will not have to choose.
Why?
Because the Smith's have a remote-controlled Christmas tree.
So when Trudy sits in the living room, she can turn on the colors.
Chris can just as easily turn the lights clear.
It's much like the showdown of the fairies in Sleeping Beauty... "pink! blue! pink! no, blue!"
What to do if they want to peacefully coexist in the living room?
No worries. Just turn them both on.

color, twinkle/flash (this will give you a seizure, no lie)

I don't know if you followed that. Basically, my Christmas tree is insane. But there's more!
Not only does the tree have these options (which, I can't lie, have made putting the tree up a much more pleasant experience for lack of tree light *hmmhmm* "discussion" between my parents), they are controlled by a remote. Because that is what we need. One more remote. So now, for at least one month, the tree light remote keeps the playstation remote, the tv remote, the tivo remote, the system remote, the fan remote (a whole different story), the blackberry, the childhood picture, the coaster, the lamp, and the manger scene company.
Please picture one of my parents walking in, sitting down on the coach, sweet tea in hand, setting it down on the coaster, picking up the fan remote (my mom is hopelessly hot ALL of the time) to adjust the temperature, turning on the tv (which requires at least 2 remotes), oh! a text message, gotta respond. Done. Wait! Gotta get those tree lights how we want them... All of this from the recliner.
And from the recliner, life looks and feels just right.
